The Position

As part of our growing Computational Innovation (CI) (@computationalinnovation) function you can step into a world of digital innovation, data-driven approaches and cutting-edge computational science at Boehringer Ingelheim, where you will be part of a global, multicultural and open-minded team. As a member of our Genomics lab in CI you will play a key role in NGS data generation for data-driven insight, contributing to the discovery and development of transformative therapies that improve patients’ lives.

We are looking for an experienced genomics/next generation sequencing (NGS) Technical Assistant/Lab Scientist to join our Genomics lab at our Biberach site. In our Genomics lab, you will work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment spanning therapeutic areas, data & infrastructure, and computational teams. In this role, you will deliver large-scale, high-quality NGS data using state-of-the-art technologies, focusing on high-throughput bulk and single-cell workflows, while continuously improving genomics assays and processes.

As a Genomics Technical Assistant/Lab Scientist, you will play an essential role in advancing innovative drug discovery through the generation and optimization of high quality NGS data. Your expertise will be crucial in enhancing our genomics team’s capabilities, automation systems, and experimental protocols, driving both delivery and continuous innovation.

If you thrive in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary setting and are ready to help shape the future of our Genomics team, we encourage you to apply.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role you will plan, coordinate and execute hands-on NGS experiments (high- and low-throughput) with standardized and leading applications in close collaboration with technical assistants, experimental and computational scientists across multiple therapeutic areas.
  • You will proactively evaluate, optimize and implement NGS technologies/assays to address biological questions based on business priorities, as well identify emergent genomics technologies.
  • Reporting on NGS studies to stakeholders within and across departments will also be part of your role.
  • With your expertise you will utilize and continuously improve modern lab automation (e.g., liquid handlers) and digital lab solutions (e.g., LIMS), to ensure efficient, reproducible and scalable NGS lab processes.
  • You will contribute to continuous process and workflow improvements across genomics operations, driving efficiency, robustness and operational excellence in a dynamic research environment.

Requirements

  • Master ´s degree or equivalent experience in Genomics, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or in a related field with several years of research and NGS experience, preferably in the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven hands-on expertise working with diverse NGS technologies and optimizing/executing sample processing (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction and cell/nuclei isolation), library preparation and sequencing.
  • Hands-on experience with single-cell/nuclei omics (e.g., microfluidic workflows).
  • Experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture and genetic perturbation (e.g., CRISPR/siRNA) is a plus.
  • Expertise with modern lab automation (e.g. liquid handlers) and software (e.g., LIMS) for monitoring, reporting and interpretation of NGS experiments.
  • Highly motivated team players with a learning mindset, strong time management, organizational and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and German, written and spoken.
